My Stuff LP and Strat

Hey guys... I just drifted over from MLP.... I just got back into electrics this year. The mod bug has got me bad. My Epi Les Paul has bone nut, frets leveled, complete setup, tried many pups (currently stock neck and Rockfield SWV bridge, Gotoh bridge) and alu tailpiece, 50's wiring, Orange Drops (waiting for PIO's from Jonesy) reflectors and pointers. My Squire Strat Standard has all new guts: new pg, GFS vintage pups, Orange Drop, black knobs, and gave it the Clapton mod to the trem.

I have been on the MLP Forum for about 8 months now. Just about the time I got back into electrics. I am the "old" guy as I have been retired for the last 8 years. I enjoy the comraderie of guitar players and see some good people are already here. I hope this forum does not go off on the same kind of tangents that MLP seems to of late. I can take a joke, but be prepared for the response. I never am mean-spirited but can be very sarcastic. Hope to have a lot of fun here.

Anybody Want to Outline Prelim Steps for a Simple Mod?

I'm sure there are many people who come here that have never modded an axe and are intimidated by the idea. Any of the more experienced guys want to outline some Rules or steps for Modding an axe that a Newbie (like me) would understand. Such as, "Where do you start", "What's the best axe to experiment with", "What simple tools should you have"? Any help would be appreciated.

Here is an old Squier Strat that I refinished for a friend.

It's got a nice Alder body and Maple neck. After a little tweaking it sounds real nice.

I got to play it through my amplifiers and the tone had such a Hendrix feel to it.

David Gilmour Tribute Strat: DG-77

Back in the mid 90's, I created my own version of David Gilmour's Black Strat. I started with a Squire body and started collecting materials. Since this was before there was much info available about it, I had to do the research myself. Originally I replicated his 1977 set-up but now it's more like his current set-up. Before writing the book, David's guitar tech, Phil Taylor, was always vague with details but he once said that in the mid-70's, he replaced the Bridge pick-up with a DiMarzio. A ...

The Frankencaster

I've been tinkering with guitars since around 1974. Most were minor rewiring jobs. When I finally tackled my first kit, all I kept was the wood. I wanted a suped-up Telecaster. I wanted it to sound like a Tele - but it also had to sound like a Strat and a Les Paul. I decided it would need a P-90 (neck), Strat (middle) and a Humbucker in the neck. I also added some separate circuits for various tones not normally found in any of these stock guitars. Since it was assembled from all different guitars, ...
